Quantitative Research Study: Genetically Modified Organisms: A College Studentas Perspective
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are those whose genetic material has been manipulated u201cartificiallyu201d in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This relatively new science createsnunstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial, and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods (Non-GMO Project, 2015). With so many food options available, the aim of this study is to explore food purchasing trends of college students to determine how awareness of GMOs affects their likelihood of buying non-GMO products. Data were collected from 214 students at a southern university, using an electronic questionnaire. Results showed that even prior to survey completion; students had a relatively good knowledge of GMOs. They also felt this information would increase their likelihood of buying non-GMO products. In terms of cost, the majority agreed they would purchase non-GMO products if prices were lower. Additionally, most respondents disagreed when asked whether gender affected their perception of GMOs. Ideas for further research were also explored. n

Faith and Black-White Interracial Marriages : A Qualitative Research Study
The landmark 1967 Loving vs. Virginia Supreme Court ruling ended anti-miscegenation laws in America. However, the historic event did not change how interracial marriages were viewed from a societal standpoint (Alonso, 2000). Although such unions have increased in the 21st century, problems associated with acceptance still abound (Jayson, 2011). The purpose of this qualitative research study is to explore how faith impacts Black-White Christian marriages. Does it help these couples cope with adversity and/or handle daily struggles better than those who do not share the same beliefs? Or, is there no significant difference at all? William Gudykunstu2019s (1995) Anxiety-Uncertainty Management Theory will serve as a theoretical framework for the study. It contends the development of healthy interethnic relations and flexible interactions require a high degree of intergroup communication, and in the same vein, a heightened level of out-group communication (Matusitz, 2012). Ideas for further research will also be explored.
